Bio
Anatoly Suzdaltsev is a visual artist and photographer. Born in 1980 in the Southern Urals, he is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and studies at Fotografika Academy.
He creates visual narratives charged with tension, uncertainty, and enigma. He primarily works through the photobook format, creating works with multiple layers of meaning that invite readers to uncover hidden connections and interpretations. Anatoly holds a deep mystical view of photography and blends objective reality with fictional narratives and imagined characters.
His focus lies in urban photography and vernacular archives. Anatoly explores liminal and otherworldly spaces across Central Asia, working with 35mm film, photogrammetry, and scanography to document traces, textures, and material artefacts.
His projects have been exhibited in group exhibitions and festivals across Europe and Asia, including the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Germany, Serbia, Hungary, Japan, and Malaysia. His zines and books are held in the collections of Zone of the Zine, GARAGE, NIZINA, Asia Art Archive and the Carlos Fontes Library.
